SATEL RGB BIGThe SATELLINE-1870E radio modem provides a wireless transparent data link on the European licence-free 868...870 MHz frequency band. It is designed for tight integration into the user’s terminal equipment, and is particularly well suited for the transfer of data and control messages in medium range applications. In accordance with the regulations on the use of the 869 MHz band, the maximum output power of the SATELLINE-1870E is 500 mW.

The SATELLINE-1870E operates in a transparent transfer mode, which ensures compatibility with most user systems and protocols. The settings of the radio modem can be changed from an external terminal in the programming mode or through auxiliary SL-commands during normal operation.

In case there is a need to extend the coverage of the radio modem network, SATELLINE-1870E modems can be used as repeater stations. By using the Store and Forward function, the radio modem buffers the received data and transmits it further using the same radio frequency as in the reception.

SATELLINE-1870E is an appropriate choice where price is important. With its high output power, good sensitivity, small size and low power consumption, it meets both the technical and economical requirements set on wireless communications in a number of applications, including:
* Remote meter reading (Gas, Electricity, Heat).
* Remote control of water distribution
* Remote control of irrigation systems
* Environmental monitoring

It is the recommendation ERC/REC 70-03created by the radio communications committee of CEPT, which sets the technical requirements for the licence exempt use of short range devices on harmonised frequency bands around the Europe. CEPT members (spectrum authorities) have to either follow the recommendation in their frequency management or inform the CEPT radio communications committee about any restrictions. Those national restrictions are listed and attached to the ERC/REC 70-03 document.

License exempt 500 mW sub band

 

The sub band 869.400 - 869.650 MHz on the 869 MHz range is specified for

0.5 Werp (radiated power, in reference with a half wave dipole antenna, 0 dBd = 2.15 dBi). On this band, there are 10 x 25 kHz channels with centre frequencies

The latest ETSI specification regarding this matter is dated 5-2012. Since the earlier than 3.63.4 firmware versions for the SATELLINE EASy 869 and SATELLINE EASy TR1 doesn’t have the automatic duty cycle limitation, the duty cycle limitation has been left to the responsibility of the connected hardware as an upper layer application task.

 

Defenition for the duty cycle:

For the purposes of the present document the duty cycle is defined as the ratio, expressed as a percentage, of the maximum transmitter "on" time monitored over one hour, relative to a one hour period.

 

If the upper layer application is not capable of limiting the duty cycle to the ETSI specification requirements, the firmware of the SATELLINE EASy 869 and/or SATELLINE EASy-M3-TR1 869 products shall be updated to the required minimum level, version 3.63.4.

 

Please do note that after updating elder than 3.63.4 firmware version to the latest version, the Subband(frequency range) of the radio modem shall be selected by the user in order to take the automatic duty cycle limitation in use in the radio modem. This task can be executed either from the programming menu via terminal connection, via LCD user interface or via SL –commands with terminal connection.
